What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a type of treatment that helps to restore the structural balance of the muskuloskeletal system. Typically, an Osteopath (who is a licensed physician) treats the patient as a whole, rather than focusing on a specific health problem. Osteopathic doctors believe that the structure of their patient’s body is related to the function of their body, so that when the structure is improved and tissue is improved, the symptoms a patient has will also improve. For example, a patient may have some restrictions of the spine that may be related to a breathing problem.
The musculoskeletal system is the body’s largest energy user and dysfunction in that area can cause any number of health problems. In fact, there are few health concerns that can’t benefit from Osteopathic care, and Osteopathy can help many problems that have failed to respond to medicine or surgery.
Dr. Dawson has been treating patients Osteopathically for 24 years and accepts clients for annual exams or occasional visits. She especially enjoys taking care of patients with hormonal concerns. Because Osteopathic treatment is generally a more natural approach to health, she often prescribes Bio-Identiacl hormone therapy, when that approach is appropriate.
